Welcome to SkillsPlus UK
Seven organisations have joined forces to support the improvement of skills training and development in local government, and are working closely with the network of Sector Skills Councils.
The SSC network - which has the government’s remit for tackling skills gaps and shortages across the UK - is working more closely with the Local Government Association [LGA] the Welsh Local Government Association [WLGA], the Northern Ireland Local Government Association [NILGA], the Local Government Staff Commission for Northern Ireland, [LGSCNI], the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities [COSLA], Local Government Employers [LGE] and the Improvement and Development Agency [IDeA]. Together they form the Local Government Strategic Skills Partnership which is called SkillsPlus UK.
SkillsPlus UK is hosted by Local Government Employers and is jointly managed by LGE and the Improvement and Development Agency [IDeA] on behalf of the local government associations and undertakes to support the skills needs for local authorities in England. Each of the partner organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland support the skills needs of their local authorities and collaborate as SkillsPlus UK on pan UK skills issues. The partners work collectively to drive forward plans, and support the work of the SSC network, which will benefit the 3 million workers in the local government sector.
